Exercise is Medicine
Exercise is Medicine
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) co-launched Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) in 2007, in conjunction with the American Medical Association.
Exercise is Medicine ® offers a credential program that recognizes exercise professionals who possess the education and skills to work closely with the health care community and referred patients, including those with common chronic diseases and health conditions.
I am an EIM Level I exercise professional, credentialed by ACSM to work with individuals at low or moderate risk who have been cleared by their healthcare professional for independent exercise. The Level I credential requires an NCCA or ANSI/ISO-accredited fitness professional certification and successful completion of the EIM credential course and examination.
The EIM Level I course study and examination includes over 24 exercise topics, including most of the common conditions faced by seniors, older adults, and those who have difficulty exercising on their own, such as:
- Arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis)
- Osteoporosis
- Low back pain
- Weight loss
- Balance and fall prevention
- Diabetes
- Cholesterol improvement
- Coronary artery disease
